HOW IT WORKS
Suspended Image unfolds in four parts over the course of a year.
Each quarter, a cyanotype arrives by mail in a light-safe envelope. The image has already been exposed, but it has not yet been made permanent. When you’re ready, you’ll fix the print at home using simple written and video instructions.
Cyanotypes are camera-less, sun-activated photographs. They are made by coating paper with a light-sensitive solution and exposing it to UV light. An image only becomes permanent once it is fixed (rinsed in water). Until then, it exists in a temporary, light-sensitive state.
This project is part of my ongoing exploration of analog photography and what happens to images in the space between creation and permanence. These works are intentionally paused — suspended — and require care, time, and participation to be completed.
What you will receive
- One unfixed 8 × 10 cyanotype in a light safe sleeve and protective mailer
- Instructions for fixing your cyanotype
- A letter explaining the image and process
Each print is made by hand and will vary slightly. These variations are part of the work.
Subscription Details
- Prints are mailed once per quarter
- Subscriptions renew automatically
- You may cancel before the next billing cycle
To keep the project small and intentional, subscriptions are limited. Once the current edition fills, enrollment will close.
